NDRC 2012 Swapmeet
Thank you to all who attended and supported our Swap Meet and Show and Shine held on Sunday the 18th of March 2012.

Last year was the only time many of us can recall our Swapmeet being postponed. Everyone had their fingers crossed that nature wont intervene again this year and although she threatened to on Saturday night, all she could manage was an overcast day. We think the overcast weather kept numbers down a bi,t but the planning was good, the food was ready, the people came, the show and shine cars rolled in and to top it off everyone had a good time!

This year we continued with the peoples choice top 10 cars on display and a separate peoples choice club car as well. Many thanks to our sponsors for the excellent trophies.

The Club is also ran a raffle of: 2 large tool kits, 1/2" and 1/4" socket sets which was drawn on the day, I don't have the results at hand however a big congratulations to the winners.

On one of my many walk arounds I noticed that the food tent had a bit of a line up happening, however the servings were very generous and at good prices. Once again we are more about a good event, quality food and entertainment otherwise we wouldn't have the following that we do year after year.

The lads at the gate were in good form, greeting people with a bit of humour and cheek, giving good directions (well they told me where to go) and even getting the change right (most of the time). We had some additional signage this year which seemed to help show people where to go.

The show ground has a generous area for free parking  for buyers to park which is also well received compared to some other venues.

As a bit of a novelty we had a donated car that was headed for the wrecking yard that someone thought it would be a good guessing competition to see how long it would run at high revs with no oil or water in it. Well the answer to the big bang theory was 44 seconds and one lucky person left with $50 for the closest guess.

We have a reputation for a good swap and thanks to a well organised committee, a multitude of diligent club members, their spouses, children, friends, family, supporters, sponsors etc all pitching in to help, I think every one should be proud.

Have a look at the photos in the photo gallery to get a feel for just how big an event this year's was and even with the threat of inclement weather how big a swap and show and shine this is getting.

See you there next year!

The Northern Districts Rodders Club Inc Story

In common with the early days of most clubs the Northern Districts Hotrod Rod Club was founded in 1976 by a small group of like-minded people having common interest in the sport. The early meetings were held usually at a member’s house or at the local where probably unaware of the legacy they were creating they laid the foundations for a very strong club.

The Club presently has over fifty members, with vehicles ranging from 1923 'T Buckets' through to early 70’s Ford, Holden, and customs. The Club is well represented with vehicles spread though the varous popular styles of Hot Rods from 1923, 28,29, 30, 32 & 34 and over twenty of these are on the road.

The Club has for many years enjoyed a permanent clubhouse in the Redcliffe Showgrounds, (entrance of Scarborough Road) which provides a stable location, which we have developed to suit our needs.

The club meetings area held at 7:30pm on the second Wednesday of every month and we conduct monthly cruises from here or as advertised in the member’s newsletter.

Each year in early April we hold a Show & Shine in conjunction with an annual Swap-Meet, although already popular both of these are growing into sizable events. In 2008 there were 126 vehicles on display. In 2009 even with the inclement weather threatening there were still over 100 quality vehicles on display. 2010 the weather threatend again and for the first time in known history 2011 was rained out! Due to the postponement, the date change to June resulted in less swappers and buyers however there were still over 60 quality cars on display and the proud trophy reciepients are shown in the photo gallery.

The Club though various fundraising activities maintains a strong financial position is proud of its involvement in the local community, supporting Redcliffe’s First Settlement Festival and a number of charities.

The Club has a long history and it has received its share of prizes for club displays and individual cars along the way. It is one of the founding member Clubs of the Queensland Hot Rod Promotions, which is behind the hugely successful annual Hot Rod, Custom and Bike show at the Brisbane RNA showground.

The membership of the club is very diverse with representation from all walks of life all with a common interest in vehicles. Yes, we do have our Chev vs Fords (or Chords ie Chev powered Fords) and our New vs Old however it is all in jest and we are a fairly social lot, not to high on officialdom, just enough to keep things on track and get the job done.

If you feel that we are the sort of group you may like to associate with please approach any of the members and come along to a meeting.
